Mandocello Tunings

CGDA Tuning

THE traditional tuning. The incredible depth and breadth of this tuning is truly astonishing. If you're not sure - this is the tuning to pick. This '5ths' tuning is the classic tuning for this instrument and once you hear it... you'll know why. This tuning covers almost 2 octaves on the open strings.

DGBE Tuning

This is the same tuning as the four high strings on the guitar but a full octave lower. It's great if you play guitar and want to get started with a mandocello but lacks the breadth of a '5ths' tuning. This tuning covers just barely over 1 octave on the open strings.

GDAE Tuning

Not nearly as common as the above tunings for Mandocello. While this is a '5ths' tuning, you lose the depth of pitch that the CGDA tuning offers, putting you into the same pitch range as the Octave Mandolin. This tuning also covers nearly two octaves on the open strings.
